House 00 - Introduction


House 00 is a retreat, a sanctuary of the self, and an architectural response to shifting sociality in a post-Covid-19 world. Envisioned by Middle East Architecture Network (MEAN) as a prototype for living in isolation away from urban density, House 00 is an attempt at rebooting the basic conditions of domesticity, serenity, and intimacy.

Sitting at the highest point in the United Arab Emirates, on the soaring peaks of Jebel Jais northeast of Ras-Al Khaimah, House 00 boasts the critical balance of being simultaneously in nature yet out of reach. Quality of air, breath-taking views and exceptional Dunite rock landscapes make for a perfect location for a unique house.

On the inside, the 2000 SQM contemporary design borrows from traditional elements of local residential architecture, featuring all the amenities for a comfortable and healthy life, as well as the social and cultural necessities of the Emirati family. On the outside, the sculptural limestone and glass façade blends seamlessly into the surroundings, looking pristine yet man-made; monolithic yet architectonic at the same time.

The house is organized into two parts embracing an inner courtyard. Spaces are split between east and west wings based on their respective uses and expected visitors.

The façade pattern continues upwards as a coffered slab hovering over the courtyard, making for an in-house shaded oasis. A waterfall feature adds sound to the pleasant ambiance and marks the way to an infinity pool overlooking the mountains.

Absorbed amid lush greenery and ample landscape, the main entrance leads visitors into the west wing via a double-height reception hall that segues into the dining area overlooking the courtyard, a gentle warp away from the Women’s Majlis. Walking past the courtyard, the journey concludes with a double-height family living with a staircase leading to the family private suite with four bedrooms.

The first floor is slashed 45 degrees aligning with the mountain cliff to capture south-east views. Daylight is invited through large windows in the living room, and also through skylights on the roof allowing natural daylight to seep in while maintaining privacy. On the east wing, guest functions align by the pool. A study room, guest bedroom, and Male Majlis are almost formally separated from the rest of the house for added privacy. A separate soft kitchen facing the pool and the view serves during poolside events and barbecue parties.

As the pandemic malaise drags across the big city, House 00 offers more than life in solitude. It sets forth a unique restart for sharpening both the soul and the senses.

المنزل صفر - نص تقديمي


المنزل صفر هو ملاذٌ ومعتكفٌ وحلٌ معماريٌ يتماهى مع طورٍ اجتماعيٍ جديد ينتمي لعالم ما بعد جائحة كورونا. تتمحور رؤية المصممين في مكتب شبكة الشرق الأوسط للعمارة حول اعتبار المنزل نموذجاً أولياً لحياة تعتزل كثافة وزحام الحضر. المنزل صفر هو محاولةٌ لإعادة تخيّل مفاهيم الحياة المنزلية والسكينة والألفة.

بتربّعه أعلى نقطة في الإمارات العربية المتحدة، على قمم جبل جيس الشاهقة في أقصى الشمال الشرقي من رأس الخيمة، يوازن المنزل بشكلٍ دقيق بين التواجد في قلب الطبيعة والانعزال عن سواها. جودة الهواء وروعة المنظر الذي يخطف الأنفاس وتكوينات أحجار الدونايت الاستثنائية تؤمّن مكاناً مثالياً لمنزلٍ فريد.

من الداخل يمتد المنزل على مساحةٍ رحبة تصل قرابة 2000 متراً مربعاً. ويستعير التصميم العصري عناصراً تقليدية من العمارة المحليّة ويمزجها مع كل ما قد يحتاجه المنزل من مرافق حديثة بما يؤمّن حياةً رغدة وصحيّة ويستجيب للحاجات الاجتماعية والثقافية للأسرة الإماراتية. من الخارج يتداخل التكوين النحتي لواجهة المنزل من الحجر والزجاج مع الطبيعة المحيطة فيبدو كتكوينٍ طبيعي ومصنوعٍ في الوقت ذاته؛ ويبدو تارةً كمنحوتةٍ واحدة وتارةً أخرى كبناءٍ مُركّب.

ينتظم المنزل في قسمين شرقي وغربي يضمّان فناءاً داخلياً في كنفهما. وتنقسم فضاءات المنزل بين القسمين تبعاً لاستعمالات كل فضاء وزوّاره المحتملين.

تمتد تشكيلات الواجهة إلى السقف المُقصّب الذي يطفو بخفّة فوق الفناء الداخلي ويُحوّله لواحةٍ مظللة. بينما ينسال من الأعلى شلال مائي يُضفي خريره أجواءاً صافية على الفناء الداخلي. يقود الشلال زائر المنزل إلى بركة سباحة لانهائية تُطل بدورها على مناظر الجبال الأخّاذة.

خلف الأشجار الكثيفة والطبيعة الغنّاء يقبع المدخل الرئيسي. يدلف منه الزوار مباشرة إلى القسم الغربي من المنزل عبر بهو استقبال ذي سقفٍ مرتفع يُفضي بهم إلى فضاء الطعام المُطل على الفناء الداخلي، قبل أن تفصلهم انحناءةٌ رشيقة عن مجلس النساء. تستمر الجولة بحذاء الفناء الداخلي وصولاً إلى فضاء معيشة العائلة ذي السقف المرتفع وتنتهي بدرجٍ يصعد لجناح عائلي مزوّد بأربع غرف نوم. بالأعلى يميل الطابق الأول 45 درجة ليحاذي انحناءة الجبل ويسمح بإطلالةٍ مُميّزة لجهة الجنوب الشرقي. وتدخل الإضاءة الطبيعية إلى المنزل عبر شبابيك كبيرة على الواجهات وفتحات في السقف تغمر الفضاء الداخلي بضوء النهار دون أن تساوم على خصوصية المنزل.

أما القسم الشرقي فتتراص فيه الفضاءات المُخصصة للضيوف بمحاذاة بركة السباحة. يضم القسم غرفةً للدرس وغرفة نوم للضيوف ومجلساً للرجال تعمل كلها بشكلٍ مُستقل عن باقي المنزل لمزيدٍ من الخصوصية. كما أضيف مطبخٌ صغير بمواجهة بركة السباحة يُمكن استخدامه أثناء حفلات الشواء أو لدى استضافة فعاليّات بالحديقة.

بينما لا يزال القلق من الجائحة يتسرّب بين أوصال المدن الكبرى، يقدّم المنزل صفر ما هو أكثر من مجرّد خلوة. هو بالأحرى يرسم ملامح تجربةٍ فريدة تشحذ الروح والحواس معاً.
