Willow Pavilion - Socrates Sculpture Park

‘Willow’ responds to the need of the park to manufacture a bespoke system of 4 canopies that provide shelter from the elements and celebrate the identity of the park as a cultural destination

‘Willow’ is a canopy system envisioned as a response to Folly/Function 2017, a competition organized by Socrates Sculptural Park and the Architectural League of New York.

Socrates Sculpture Park hosts annual family oriented activities of a wide range. Their activity-rich program includes art exhibitions, performances, workshops, and activities throughout the seasons.

Our proposal suggests a light weight, modular, deployable system that is also sculptural: ‘Willow’ borrows formally from its surrounding trees, to manifest a joyous shelter from the elements, celebrating the diversity of the park’s activities and its visitors.
